Each year, Tripadvisor unveils its much-awaited list of the world’s most flocked-to and in-demand travel destinations.
The Travellers’ Choice Awards for Destinations – The Best of the Best Destinations, ranks the year’s hottest travel hotspots based on user reviews and ratings.
This week, the company revealed that modern metropolis Dubai had beaten the likes of London and Paris to number one, taking the top spot.
Also featuring in the rankings, the adventure-lovers paradise situated on Egypt’s Red Sea Coast, Hurghada, came in at number ten, showing positive signs for the Middle East’s travel industry.
“Dubai has shoved perennial icons like London, Paris and Rome aside to take the [number one spot],” Tripadvisor said in an email to CNN Travel.

Following an analysis of traveller reviews and ratings collected over a 12-month period from November 2020 to October 2021, Tripadvisor’s most-loved locations for 2022 are:

4. Bali, Indonesia
5. Crete, Greece
6. Rome, Italy
7. Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

WHAT’S SO GREAT ABOUT DUBAI?
Dubai, which has been rising in the ranks of Tripadvisor’s Travelers’ Choice Awards over the past few years, has taken the crown and emerged as the number one most popular destination in the world, Justin Reid, director of media, destinations and travel at Tripadvisor said.
“Dubai is an ultramodern city that has it all: golden beaches, world-class dining, and gorgeous hotels. Since the Travelers’ Choice Awards are based on reviews of places to go, stay and things to do in destinations, to rank as the world’s best means a destination has obtained stellar traveller reviews across all of its tourism sectors,” said Reid.
Amidst the global pandemic which placed a spanner in the works of many travellers’ plans throughout 2021, Dubai was successful in attracting an array of visitors from across the globe. Perhaps due to the emirate’s relaxed COVID-19 restrictions and ease of access, Dubai stood out as a favourite destination for those seeking long-awaited excitement and entertainment.
